BIAS will investigate fashion as a cultural force, encouraging readers to engage with fashion not just as a consumer practice, but as a movement toward a more equitable and environmentally conscious future. Just like our name, which represents both the crossgrain of woven fabric — which when a fabric is cut along, allows for even non-stretch fabrics to have ease and flexibility — and the political and social lenses through which we all view the world, BIAS thrives in the intersection of fashion and the global consciousness. Our articles appeal to the fashion-minded and socially conscious people of BC, with themes that will appeal specifically to young women, students, and people of colour. By examining the ways in which we consume, view, share, and engage with fashion, BIAS’s mission is to draw back the curtain of the elusive fashion industry and encourage readers to engage with their closet in a more intentional way. While BIAS is rooted in BC, we recognize the global impact of fashion and work to connect local conversations with international movements. As BIAS is compiled of people from different backgrounds, experiences, and relationships with fashion we hope that there is something for all fashion lovers alike. Whether it be sustainability or social justice, BIAS is committed to inspiring dialogue on the politics of fashion.
